Week 8

This week I learned alot from researching steering boxes.  I had the chance finally to get in the shop after the new students were finished with the steering box on the Freightliner.  Me, Devon, Chris, and Aaron got our hands in there and took the steering box apart and I was very suprised to see what was inside.  It was the first time I have ever seen a gear like that, it looked like a corkscrew gear.  Later in the week I helped the new students set up the flow meter and showed them how it works and the meaning of flow(speed).  I was happy to perform these tasks because I never had the chance to get into a steering box at any of my internships and I can see why they would just replace it instead of rebuild one.  Next week we will be getting our hands on Transmissions.  I have had alot of experience servicing them but not actually noticing what parts do what so I am looking forward to that.
